FAQ
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants provide a permanent solution to replace missing teeth. Because they are fused directly to the jawbone, implants remain secure when speaking and chewing.
Dental implants also look and feel like natural teeth, providing more confidence and comfort than traditional dentures or bridgework.
Dental implants are small, biocompatible posts that act as artificial tooth roots. They are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing.
Over time, the implants fuse with the bone, creating a stable foundation to replace missing teeth or stabilize dentures and bridges.
Not only can dental implants restore the function and appearance of missing teeth, but they also help preserve the health of surrounding teeth, preventing further bone loss.
Who Is A Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
Individuals with good overall oral health, healthy gums and sufficient bone density in the jaw to support the implant are generally the best candidates for the procedure.
If you have lost bone density due to periodontal disease or another condition, you may need a bone grafting procedure before getting implants.
Dental Implant Procedure
What to Expect
The process of receiving dental implants typically involves several stages.
Here is an overview of what you can expect:
Initial Consultation: At your first consultation, we assess the health of your teeth and gums to determine whether you are a good candidate for dental implants.
Treatment Plan: We develop a customized treatment plan based on your specific needs and any pre-existing dental issues. We are committed to patient comfort during each visit, as well as long term results.
Implant Surgery: Placing the implant (a small screw-like fixture that acts as an artificial tooth root) into the jawbone.
Osseointegration: During the healing process the implant will fuse with the surrounding bone tissue creating a stable environment for the replacement teeth.
Attaching the Abutment: Once the implant has fused with the bone tissue, the abutment can be attached to the implant. The abutment is a small connector post the artificial tooth is attached to.
Placing the Prosthetic Tooth: After the abutment is in place, the prosthetic tooth (or teeth) are placed onto the abutment. This may also involve attaching a crown, bridge or anchoring dentures, depending on the specific needs of the patient.
